New Voices for Reproductive Justice

Sweet Serenity Behavioral Health and Life Coaching, LLC

Sweet Serenity Behavioral Health and Life Coaching, LLC

New Voices for Reproductive Justice specializes in the “wholly impossible” inspired by the quote from early 20th Century Black feminist, civil rights activist and religious leader, Nannie Helen Burroughs, the founder of the National Training School for Women and Girls.  Our vision of the “wholly impossible” has resulted in creating a powerful movement for Reproductive Justice – the Human Right to control our bodies, sexuality, gender, work, reproduction and the ability to form our families. The spark for New Voices began with three young Black women college students who created safe and affirming spaces for Black women on the University of Pittsburgh campus and a community elder who had been a peace and justice activist for over 30 years.  This work extended to the broader Pittsburgh community in 2004 when our Co-Founder, La’Tasha D. Mayes, accepted the call to leadership and organized women of color from Western Pennsylvania to attend the March for Women’s Lives. This opportunity clarified how important it was to create a political space for young women of color to articulate our own ideas about social justice and develop our own activism for reproductive rights as this space did not exist.

Principal Investigator Raquel Gur and colleagues are conducting a pharmaco-imaging study of a novel dopamine D1 partial agonist, to evaluate its potential for improving neurobehavioral markers of working memory impairment in individuals with early-stage schizophrenia.

The study involves 7 in-person visits, including an initial intake visit, 5 scan visits, and 1 follow up visit, as well as a brief phone check in 1 month after completion of the study. An investigational medication is taken prior to the scan on each of the 5 scan visits. In addition to medical assessments, subjects will participate in clinical interviews, cognitive assessments, and MRIs. Total compensation is up to $2,910.

To be eligible, study participants must be 18-45 years old, meet DSM-5 criteria for a primary non-affective psychotic disorder (schizophrenia, schizoaffective, or schizophreniform) with onset of psychosis within the past 10 years. Psychiatric symptoms and treatment must be stable (no active/remarkable SI/HI, no anticipated need to change medications during study). Patients must not have had an active moderate/severe substance use disorder (except nicotine). Patients may be unmedicated, but only certain antipsychotics are allowed (olanzapine, clozapine, ziprasidone or asenapine are exclusionary), and certain other psychoactive medications are not allowed (stimulants or other current pharmacotherapy for ADHD, medical cannabis, anticonvulsants

except when used as mood stabilizers). We screen by phone for eligibility, so if eligibility is uncertain, you or your patient should contact us.
